Socialism has unleashed a profound humanitarian crisis in Venezuela

“The economic and political collapse in Venezuela is evident from recent news coverage, but even more so from the numbers: In 2016, the country’s GDP shrank by 10 percent. In 2017, its economy could shrink another seven percent. Inflation reached a reported 720 percent by the end of 2016 and could inflate another 200 percent by 2018. Crime runs rampant in the Bolivarian Republic, which averaged the second-most homicides per 100,000 inhabitants in the world last year. Combine these factors with Nicolas Maduro’s oppressive, socialist dictatorship and it becomes clear why so many Venezuelans have decided to leave the country.” (09/06/17)
