CNN drafts Pokemon Go into Red Scare efforts

“Russia-back efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election extended to Pokemon Go, CNN reports. Not only did the Kremlin’s campaign to impact the election target Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and even Pinterest, but a new report links a campaign titled ‘Don’t Shoot Me’ to a Kremlin-backed firm called Internet Research Agency. That campaign, disseminated on multiple social media platforms, linked to a Tumblr account encouraging users to enter a contest involving Pokemon Go. That campaign asked users to find Pokemon near locations of police brutality incidents. ‘It’s clear from the images shared with us by CNN that our game assets were appropriated and misused in promotions by third parties without our permission,’ Pokemon Go’s parent company Niantic told CNN.” [editor’s note: “CNN reports;” well, that sure makes me believe it’s true – SAT] (10/12/17)
