Was Hillary Clinton's progressive [sic] presidential bid doomed from the start?

Source: Independent Institute
by Sam Staley

"One person who pays keen attention to political fundamentals is Grover Norquist, head of the anti-tax advocacy organization Americans for Tax Reform (ATR). After the election, ATR compiled revealing data about politics on the state level with profound implications for interpreting the national election results and thinking about the future of politics in America. Most Americans, it turns out, live in states where Republicans have a virtual lock on state policymaking. More than half of the U.S. population, 162.3 million, lives in 25 'Red' states where the GOP controls the governor's office and the state legislature (both houses). This is not a trivial accomplishment. Securing and maintaining this kind of partisan control is very, very difficult. A reasonable interpretation of this result is that a majority of Americans live in states where the Republican Party political platform resonates more deeply and directly than the Democratic Party platform." Barack Obama did not pardon Hillary Clinton

"One things many people anticipated in Barack Obama's final days as president was that he would issue a last minute pardon of Hillary Clinton much in the way that Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon. Then people who expected this were surprised when such an event did not happen. Some fans of Hillary Clinton tried to claim this lack of a pardon was based on her having done nothing deserving of a pardon, in spite of all the evidence to the contrary. … why would Barack Obama fail to pardon Hillary Clinton? One thing to consider is that in spite of them being in the same party and working together in the same administration, the two actually have never actually gotten along and actually do not like each other very much." Don't Trump the gun

by Paul Jacob

"The 2016 presidential election will go down in history as a doozy. The Trump win was a surprise, even shocking many of his supporters. But the most obvious lesson we learned pertains to the modal Obama-Hillary voter. Well, make that lessons. Plural." (01/19/17)

Clinton Global Initiative to lay off employees, shut down amid dwindling donations

Source: Fox News

"The Clintons are moving ahead with plans to downsize their controversial foundation’s network of offshoots, a decision carried out as the powerful family’s political influence wanes and its once-lengthy donor list shrinks. In a decision announced last week, 22 additional employees are being laid off from the Clinton Global Initiative — known for its annual glitzy gathering of high-powered leaders and celebs. The layoffs are tied to a decision to shutter CGI that originally was announced in an Aug. 22 letter from former President Bill Clinton. At the time, the Clintons were under pressure to explain how they would handle potential conflicts of interest with their namesake foundation if Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton were to win the White House." Some election interference is more equal than others

Source: Liberty Blitzkrieg
by Michael Krieger

"A couple of days ago, Politico published a fascinating piece describing how factions associated with the current Ukrainian government apparently interfered in the U.S. election on behalf of Hillary Clinton. The findings seem pretty damning, and certainly warrant at least some conversation within the American media given the 24/7 obsession with Russia. Nevertheless, most of you have probably never heard of this saga, since when it comes to the corporate media news cycle, some election interference is more equal than others." (01/13/17)

She's back

"Donald Trump argued during the last weeks of the presidential election campaign that Clinton had exposed state secrets to hostile foreign governments. … Clinton denied vehemently that she had caused any state secrets to pass into the hands of hostile foreign governments. Then Trump was elected president of the United States. Then Clinton left the public scene. Then, last Sunday evening, during the NFL playoff game between the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers, the FBI posted on its website more than 300 emails that Clinton had sent to an unnamed colleague not in the government — no doubt her adviser Sid Blumenthal — that had fallen into the hands of foreign powers. It turns out — and the Sunday night release proves this — that Blumenthal was hacked by intelligence agents from at least three foreign governments and that they obtained the emails Clinton had sent to him that contained state secrets. Sources believe that the hostile hackers were the Russians and the Chinese and the friendly hackers were the Israelis." [editor's note: Why consider the Israelis "friendly?" (01/12/17)

US DoJ to investigate itself over Servergate probe

Source: CNN

"The Justice Department's internal watchdog announced Thursday it has launched a probe into the department and the FBI's handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server. The announcement, which was expected, comes after criticism of the Justice Department's handling of the investigation, particularly on how the public was notified about the controversy, which was a major issue on the 2016 campaign trail." [editor's note: Wait before you cheer, Clinton fans. Investigating the investigation implies revisiting that investigation. Your gal skated once, but there's a new sheriff on the way … – TLK] (01/12/17)

The shadow of incompetence and racism

Source: Common Sense
by Paul Jacob

"Just when you thought it was safe to ignore Hillary Clinton … Out from the Land of Might Have Been blurps the 'news from nowhere' as to what Mrs. Clinton's cabinet would have been. Some are calling it the 'ghost cabinet,' the sadder version of a shadow cabinet. And top on the list? Secretary of State John Podesta! Mrs. Clinton's own recklessness regarding secrets and security protocols while she was Secretary of State was apparently not enough. It turns out she aspires to insecurity, for she had planned to give her old job to the man who protected his computer with the immortal, hard-to-guess password [email protected]'" (01/12/17)

"Rising tide of authoritarianism," warns eminent recent example

Source: New York Daily News

"Hillary Clinton warned of a tough battle ahead for foreign diplomacy during a rare post-election appearance celebrating a new State Department museum on Tuesday night. Without mentioning President-elect Donald Trump by name, the former Democratic presidential candidate urged a closer look at history to prevent the 'rising tide of authoritarianism' daring to threaten diplomatic victories made since World War II." Hillary Clinton’s cabinet would have been bad

Source: The New Republic
by Sarah Jones

"Noted access-seeker and Axios founder Mike Allen has released Clinton’s so-called 'ghost cabinet,' the individuals her campaign likely would have nominated to fill key administration roles. … This list contains no surprises, which is exactly why it’s so troubling. Politico initially reported in October that Clinton was considering Sheryl Sandberg for Treasury secretary. Progressives opposed that at the time, and for good reason: Sandberg’s only qualifications for that position are that she is wealthy and friendly with Clinton. Those two characteristics, wealth and loyalty, constitute the same low standard Donald Trump has applied to his own cabinet nominees. See also: Howard Schultz (of Starbucks) for labor secretary and Anna Wintour (of Vogue) for ambassador to the U.K." [editor's note: Clink the link to see the list; it has few real surprises – SAT] (01/10/17)
